BG115412573 The hex key is used to switch the regular or chamfered rings that both come with the dogs. This way you can use these bench dogs in both regular and chamfered holes. The chamfered ring let's you easily place the dogs in dog holes which have a chamfer. In general chamfering your dog holes is recommended as it reduces wear on the dog holes' edges.
