spokekiller Me again. So I have found out that the product is not defective. I got them to work under WinXP (my only Windows I still have). Apparently, while modern Linux kernels do have support for CH341 (note the 1!), they have problems with more modern versions of said Chip. So, even though your kernel recognises the chip, communication will fail due to changes in the chip. I ordered 4 of these all in all, and was sorely disappointed. First I thought it was due to my hardware or config and I spent hours getting this to work without success. So I soldered a quick self-test plug which simply connects RX-TX and so on. All I get is gibberish. I tried all baudrates at 8N1, made sure the device is recognised properly, which it is. Mine are CH341 and should work well with Linux

spokekiller Are you sure it's aluminium? Couldn't it just be tinned copper strands?Also, would you mind checking if it's magnetic? I've seen reports of bad chinese wires being ferrous metals instead of copper. You could post an update here. Appreciate your efforts. Thanks!

While the cable is nice and soft it has aluminium strands as the conductor. Not a problem by itself, thet aluminium cabling is a bitch to solder and can cause corrosion problems if it is soldered to copper. Nice cable otherwise. Might buy more.

spokekiller I assume you mean the regulator, not the capacitor. The capacitro should not get "hot".

Very good product and good value. Becarfull use cooler at capasitor.
