Johnny_B_Goode Lookingat the picture of the PSU you've posted, I'm afraid you have a much more serious concern than merely bad workmanship with the soldering handles to worry about. That heatsink is only prevented from contacting the 170 or 340 volt dc trace it rests upon by that big 400v rated 68μF rectified mains voltage smoothing capacitor by a a thin coating of solder mask resist. Whilst it isn't actually in contact with any of the low voltage parts (assuming no solder splashes to provide such contact exist) it does rather make a mockery of the isolating slot it straddles. Whilst the soldering tip is itself well earthed via the protective earth connection in the C14 socket, the case remains in electrical limbo (it's not earthed!) which poses a possible electrocution hazard to the user.

You may want to dust off your 120 or 180 watt soldering gun to unsweat the heatsink off the board in order to file some metal off those end fins so that they no longer rest against any high voltage circuit traces before tackling the connections in the handle and plug with something like a 25W Antex. I'd also suggest that you create a connection from the C14's PE tag to the case metalwork for good measure.

Once you've remedied these glaring deficiencies in safety and workmanship (a trivial task for the seasoned DIY electronics enthusiast trying to upgrade his existing collection of soldering paraphernalia), it makes an excellent soldering station that's in a class above the original Hakko soldering stations formerly used with the Hakko T12 and T15 soldering tips. ;-)
