Output is DC and starts around 0.9V input with an output of 3000V, at 1.5V input it is at 9000V. I stopped measuring at 1.9V at 12kV output because the power draw was reaching over 2W and I felt like it cannot handle that for a long time, but maybe it can. In mine, the positive voltage output is on the same side as the two input wires (the negative is diagonally across). Not sure if all are built like this, I only measured one using a 40kV high voltage probe.

I would not go higher with the supply voltage if you want to use it as high voltage DC supply, it draws over 2W at 1.9V and I heard internal discharge, not sure how long it will survive at this voltage. Positive supply is the one just opposite of the two input wires, or at least it was on the one I measured.
