I started to open the box and connect these to check it they work. Out of the 10 first pieces I unpacked, 8 are just dead on arrival ! (I've not tested the 10 pieces still in the bag, but I've already lost too much time) I put the 9th on a heat sink (that's was not really needed for small loads and short duration tests but I wanted to be completely safe) I then used an electronic load to ramp-up the current from 0.2A to 1.2A. The crappy lm338 just died at 1.2A And when I say died I mean definitely died. Now it's just a piece of dead crap. That's supposed to be capable of 5A and with protections against bad uses. THE WORST BUY I DID ON BANGBAD SO FAR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJauz1tNjK0 Details on the test setup: 5V in, 1.25V out (simplest configuration: output voltage divider R1=67Ohms and R2=0Ohms). The 67Ohms resistor in parallel with the right meter is a bit low to insure a minimum load on the output so the regulator works properly.
