The laser Harp kit is very interesting. The side of the harp power connector is the switch that plays the selected built in melody. The other side has 3 leds that indicated the current melody and user selects them by presses of the button near these leds. When the built in melody is not playing, the laser beam the user interrupts by blocking with perhaps their finger play the note associated with that location. Note that the leds along the back light when the note is played giving a visual of the note used. Since the laser heads are adjustable focus, you experiment twisting brass lenses to make a fine dot. The alignment downward into the light sensors would best be done by powering on unit and use hot glue gun to fasten led when you holding by tweezers at the optimal angle for the center of light sensor. The 3d printed brace is not easy to adjust this way. You might substitute an old usb power cord in place of the smaller barrel power socket I don’t have adapter for. Then its easy to power the unit from a USB port for power only. It was tricky to solder the side arm that supports the lasers. It’s best to keep part flat on its back to the table when welding side rails.

It was a fun project to put together. I used hot glue to keep the lasers focused on the receivers. One of the lasers was missing a wire, so I had to fix that. Another laser didn't work. The note that is associated with the missing laser works anyway. I guess it would depend on what kind of ambient lighting you have. I think there should have been 8 notes, so there would be an entire octave.

A number of vendors sell this C51 based music keyboard. Instead of keys, notes are sounded by interrupting laser beams. The kit is well made and easy to assemble and a quick search on youtube will get you some instructions. Take special note of the top and sides -- there's only one way to assemble it but you may think you're soldering the laser wires wrong. It takes a little patience aligning the lasers, but it's worth the time. You won't be doing any gigs with this, but the novel technology is pretty cool. Fun!
